AIR RECEIVER Vessel Sizing CALCULATOR

Vessel size is a key parameter when designing or choosing an air compressor system. This air compressor factor determines the supply of compressed air to power whatever system or tool you are using. If you have a very small vessel, your compressor will not be fit for your application. Meanwhile, if you have a vessel that is too big, you will end up wasting energy and increasing operational costs.

You need to install a properly sized air compressor tank that is optimized for your application. Figuring out the right vessel size is not easy though—especially for professionals with no background in air compressor design. Manual calculations can be performed to get an estimate of the vessel size. However, accurately calculating the vessel size is a time-intensive process wherein you can easily make an error and end up with the wrong answer.

Thankfully, you can use this vessel sizing calculator to estimate the optimal size of the air receiver.

Calculator

Simply take accurate measurements from your application and system and then input your variables to convert the measurement to the desired unit:

Vessel Sizing
  t
  C
  p1
  p2
Calculate
  V
Reset

t = time for the receiver to go from upper to lower pressure limits (seconds)
C = free air needed (scfm)
p1 = maximum tank pressure (psia)
p2 = minimum tank pressure (psia)
V = volume of the receiver tank (gallons)
