To paint and repair medical gas cylinders, Airgas Puritan Medical uses a lot of air-powered equipment. Pneumatic lifts and flippers. Pneumatic rams. Valving machines. A complete paint system.
“We use a lot of air instruments, a lot of tools, and all the machines in here basically run on air,” said TonyYoung, supervisor of Airgas Puritan Medical’s retest area.
As a result, downtime is not an option. “Nine guys stand still,” Tony says.
Airgas Puritan Medical had two legacy units that weren’t keeping up with the workload.
“We started noticing that we were overrunning it, Tony said. “Plus, they were loud as hell. Leaked all the time.”
Another problem was the moisture in the air.
Tony called Interbay Air Compressors, an Industrial Air Centers company in Tampa, and got a quote. The Interbay team proposed two 30-HP Kaishan KRSD direct-drive rotary screw air compressors arranged as a main compressor with a backup.
“We put in a redundant system,” Tony said. “So, if one goes down, we still have enough to keep us going.”
“They’re very good compressors, a great piece of equipment. They’ve been working great. We’ve had no real issues with them.”
